THREADS – Rad + Raw Magazine http://radandrawmagazine.ca Men's Fashion and Lifestyle Magazine Wed, 05 Sep 2018 19:04:12 +0000 en-CA hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=4.9.8 AFRICAN FASHION WEEK // 2018 // TORONTO http://radandrawmagazine.ca/2018/09/03/african-fashion-week-2018-toronto/ http://radandrawmagazine.ca/2018/09/03/african-fashion-week-2018-toronto/#respond Tue, 04 Sep 2018 03:09:23 +0000 http://radandrawmagazine.ca/?p=2835 2 words to describe our appearance at African Fashion Week on Saturday night – “Blown Away” We as a publication always crave for threads that not only stand out but, make everyone sit at the edge of their seat. It all started with one model moving to the music that led the whole fashion influencer attendee’s anticipate what could possibly come out behind the runway. It was new and innovative, something Toronto hasn’t seen in a while or not used to – especially in menswear. It wasn’t the black and white predicted suit and tie or a leather jacket and a pair of boat loafers. You could telepathically see attendees look at each piece as if they were imagining how they could take those threads and style it into their own wardrobe, something a designer should take great pride in. Could we honestly say it was better than we ever expected? 100 times yes. In the beginning, they showcased mostly womenswear, which is great personally for myself to glance at. But for the sake of our readers, we were just a tad antsy. There couldn’t possibly be a better ending to the 1st segment and with views like the venue host of  “The Globe and Mail building”, you could say *in the Arnold Schwarzenegger tone* “I’ll be back”

THE ROSÉ PICNIC 2018 #ROSEPICNICTO http://radandrawmagazine.ca/2018/08/11/the-rose-picnic-2018-rosepicnicto/ http://radandrawmagazine.ca/2018/08/11/the-rose-picnic-2018-rosepicnicto/#respond Sun, 12 Aug 2018 02:15:58 +0000 http://radandrawmagazine.ca/?p=2778 What could ever be oh so more masculine then pink? The lads that were in attendance would have to agree. The ambiance was a cocktail mix of the Great Gatsby and a high tea in England. Can I just give a little shout out to the men that really outdid themselves compared to the ladies ( coming from a lady in pink herself) We first received a beautiful blanket fruitfully embellished with the Rosé Picnic logo. The cabanas were well put together and the finger food ( and not so finger food) had a little bite for everyone, Hello Vegans! Yes, even the arm candy gents got a chance to visit pamper booths, with facials and more. Though we were time-stopping our watches for the fashion show, it was hard to keep your eyes off everyone’s ‘bottled’ perfect outfits.

The highlight we must say was Zane Barläs collection, featuring sweet editorial, I couldn’t keep my camera down for a second. Calling it a 50’s swing without an expiry date.

Not only was this event, camera ready. The Rosé Picnic was much bubblier than that. When you buy a ticket to the event, your also buying a child in need a meal through Feeding Canadian Kids. Though Rad + Raw will find any excuse for savvy attire *cough cough* it also is important to support events no matter how feminine they may appear to our generalize stats. I can honestly say I am very impressed with how both genders came together to beat masculine standards.

SO…YOU TASTED PASTELS AND YOU LIKED IT? http://radandrawmagazine.ca/2018/08/01/so-you-tasted-pastels-and-you-liked-it/ http://radandrawmagazine.ca/2018/08/01/so-you-tasted-pastels-and-you-liked-it/#comments Wed, 01 Aug 2018 04:20:20 +0000 http://radandrawmagazine.ca/?p=2749 Is there anything more relaxing than looking at pastels?…well maybe listening to ASMR but that’s beside the point. I can admit sometimes styling light colors while looking rad can be a little tricky especially the unfortunate clashing situation. Why not have a pastel mockup for any occasion? Yes, I mean sports events too. To keep in mind while browsing, I am obsessing over ASOS’s boat shoe which is featured. They don’t even look like the regular styled ‘loafer’ that most athletes tend to wear. You would be surprised what you can get your hands on, or even picking up pieces when you don’t think you will ever need them. Your pastels might be calling for and just may leave a voicemail.

5 T-SHIRTS YOU NEED THAT HAVE POWERFUL MEANINGS ABOUT THE WORLD WE LIVE IN http://radandrawmagazine.ca/2018/07/03/5-t-shirts-you-need-that-has-powerful-meanings-about-the-world-we-live-in/ http://radandrawmagazine.ca/2018/07/03/5-t-shirts-you-need-that-has-powerful-meanings-about-the-world-we-live-in/#respond Tue, 03 Jul 2018 14:41:42 +0000 http://radandrawmagazine.ca/?p=2707 On the subway, stopping for coffee, or even walking to work you can’t help but glance over to read what another human’s shirt says as if they are a walking billboard. Now “ I love tacos” and “ Saturday’s are for the boys” is a little fun for comedy but what about taking all this attention and using it into something one could really take in and think about, especially with extremely upsetting situations, politically and controversial equality/human rights conversations. Using your platform and voice of social media is just as important too, but your reaching more people that couldn’t have seen your viral tweet or even keep up with what’s trending. You would be surprised what kind of impact your making by simply, not doing any work.

REGULAR SUITS OUT, NOVELTY SUITS ARE IN http://radandrawmagazine.ca/2018/07/03/regular-suits-out-novelty-suits-are-in/ http://radandrawmagazine.ca/2018/07/03/regular-suits-out-novelty-suits-are-in/#respond Tue, 03 Jul 2018 14:35:12 +0000 http://radandrawmagazine.ca/?p=2699 They say the coolest dudes take risks, which if you came across this article with high interest, you can confidently invite yourself to a whole new world of suits. More and more male celebrities are taking risks at events like the met gala, going well above than just the theme and even awards shows like the Grammy’s. So watching these fashionable lads pass by on your screen with popcorn in hand, a thinking bubble pops up and practically screams, why the hell can I not dress just like that? Though brands like Gucci are home to the coolest and most rocker like suits on this planet, we found a few that takes the same spin into something sooooo off the cuff. The best part of styling a novelty suit is that..you don’t. You only need a black dress shoe, which if you invest in a really good pair you can spend the rest of your pocket change on different assembles and of course quality white and black dress shirts. Especially in the summer, it can be warm, I would recommend keeping the pant tighter fitted so you can roll up the bottoms, leaving your ankles a little breezy. If you are not totally feeling the ones we picked out but want to snoop around for yourself, it seems that Oppo Suits is the key place to search as it seemed most online retailers were leading us back to their collections.

INDIGENOUS FASHION WEEK 2018 – TORONTO – THE NEW WAVE OF FASHION/DESIGN http://radandrawmagazine.ca/2018/06/06/indigenous-fashion-week-2018-toronto-the-new-wave-of-fashion-design/ http://radandrawmagazine.ca/2018/06/06/indigenous-fashion-week-2018-toronto-the-new-wave-of-fashion-design/#respond Wed, 06 Jun 2018 04:21:10 +0000 http://radandrawmagazine.ca/?p=2685 Though there were no dark starry skies for Frost Moon, the designers lit up the runway with style and performance Toronto hasn’t been exposed to yet. Can we talk about how confident the models looked? They carried the clothing well and we can successfully say gave Rad + Raw some sweet editorial. We couldn’t be more grateful to have attended an event that is so groundbreaking not to mention interviewing one of the designers, Inuk Design beforehand which you can check out the almost-viral article HERE. IDF did not miss a beat. There were clothing for every occasion, body shape, and preference in color/style. Not every single piece catered to fur which is an extremely loud and brave move that anyone, no matter background or choice can enjoy what these new pioneers are working so hard for. Though, I still loved how the theme of honourary patterns and textures were being used to modernize culture. If our headling title doesn’t speak volume to you, could say Indigenous fashion is really the new wave. I wish anyone could experience the feeling of knowing how big of an impact this fashion week made, judging by the few teary eyes in the room, including myself. We know this is a big step in the future of Indigenous peoples and way more influential moments to come, that we cannot wait to be a part of.

PRIDE PARTY MUST HAVES – VEGAN/DAIRY-FREE/ECO-FRIENDLY UNICORN APPROVED http://radandrawmagazine.ca/2018/06/01/pride-party-must-haves-vegan-dairy-free-eco-friendly-unicorn-approved/ http://radandrawmagazine.ca/2018/06/01/pride-party-must-haves-vegan-dairy-free-eco-friendly-unicorn-approved/#respond Fri, 01 Jun 2018 04:48:39 +0000 http://radandrawmagazine.ca/?p=2638 With Pride joining us this month, we knew we had to create a party must-haves list that is a safe bet for anyone attending such as having a dairy allergy or just in general vegan. We also found a way to keep the planet happy with a few décor that is biodegradable, who would have thought of eco-friendly glitter too. Also on our list, we newly discovered Lime Crime, which is a must for unicorn hair. They are 100% Vegan & Cruelty-free, DIY-friendly/damage-free formula, oh and not to mention they have a vast selection that will suit your hair color too. It’s semi-permanent – which is a HUGE bonus. The color we chose is called ‘jello’ because who doesn’t love the sound of that. The prices are extremely budget friendly – only $20.57 CAD to be exact – I mean you don’t see that kind of unicorn price just walking on a rainbow just anywhere.  If you have any further questions on their products – they have an instant website chat if you need it.

Of course, all of our party-recommendations/recipes are themed and made precisely to get the exact effect needed especially with ingredients etc but don’t hesitate to switch it up and add what is best suited for you and your guests. Not to mention we added a little snack bundle that you can find at your local grocery store  – especially spicy sweet chili Doritos…did you know they were vegan? Now you do! Don’t forget to check out the video below the party guide on creating a glitter beard to match your lime crime hair!

MEN’S FASHION COLUMN: STYLING BANDANA PRINT FOR THE SUMMER http://radandrawmagazine.ca/2018/06/01/mens-fashion-column-styling-bandana-print-for-the-summer/ http://radandrawmagazine.ca/2018/06/01/mens-fashion-column-styling-bandana-print-for-the-summer/#respond Fri, 01 Jun 2018 04:28:12 +0000 http://radandrawmagazine.ca/?p=2631 You see bandana’s on faces at Coachella, hanging from lad’s back pockets and even making an appearance peeking out of dress shirt pockets. There are many different ways you can style this certain print without overdoing it and making it cheesy.  Though red is the most popular as it stems from the biker lad/chick decade we thought we would keep it real simple and clean but still making it unique enough by choosing a variety of methods and even dabbling away from the typical print such as the shirt option we have chosen. You can also dress bandana print up to the max, we challenged this and left some bling inspiration.  If you do decide to switch out a few of our recommendations of styling, always keep note that everything else should be a solid color that is based on that principle bandana item, unless you are creating accents such as the shirt we paired with the slight sleeve print. If you can believe that pairing was not originally together, little dabs into detail really pull an outfit together and ups the presentation.

SUMMER 2018 ECO FRIENDLY – BEACH GUIDE FOR MEN http://radandrawmagazine.ca/2018/05/02/summer-2018-eco-friendly-beach-guide-for-men/ http://radandrawmagazine.ca/2018/05/02/summer-2018-eco-friendly-beach-guide-for-men/#respond Wed, 02 May 2018 15:29:32 +0000 http://radandrawmagazine.ca/?p=2597 If its predicted that we will have more plastic than fish by 2050, why would we ever keep contributing to it?  Why can’t we humans come to terms with being environmentally friendly when we are intruding wildlife? Our Pacific Ocean has a patch that is comparable to the size of Texas roughly 700,000 square kilometers. According to Ocean Crusaders, 100,000 marine creatures a year die from plastic entanglement and that stat is only what has been found. Also pointing out approximately 1 million seabirds also pass from plastic. If you didn’t know general plastics can take up to 1,000 years to disintegrate. Plastic bottles, on the other hand, can take up to 450 years+. Can you imagine the struggle for our wildlife getting caught or painfully attached waiting for someone/something to cut it loose? It’s important to keep in mind how easy it is to prevent or at least stop contributing in just 2 ways. 1. Reducing plastic consumption. 2. If you happen to come across a product that is still eco-friendly but falls into the recycled plastic category….recycle it or use the tube again for something else. TED-Ed explained in the video below that we left ( just in case you would like a visual to start your research), our marine life mistaken the bright colors of our ocean garbage patch for food. So, when your next beach call hits, our ethical guide will be an easy checklist so you don’t get tangled up feeling guilty.

Let’s keep our ocean from looking a little less like this:

25 PIECE CAPSULE WARDROBE INCLUDING: BUSINESS ATTIRE, ACCESSORIES AND FOR ALL SEASONS http://radandrawmagazine.ca/2018/05/02/25-piece-capsule-wardrobe-including-business-attire-accessories-and-for-all-seasons/ http://radandrawmagazine.ca/2018/05/02/25-piece-capsule-wardrobe-including-business-attire-accessories-and-for-all-seasons/#respond Wed, 02 May 2018 14:58:07 +0000 http://radandrawmagazine.ca/?p=2583 You had enough. I get it, endless items in your wardrobe that seem to hide away between piles and piles of clothes can be irritating when trying to pick out an outfit wondering if it matches and wearing it enough for its value. The tag “Capsule Wardrobe” was curated by a woman named Susie Faux in London. This term is purposely used for pieces that will always follow every season. A brother or sister to minimalism, its essential to have classics, that can be interchanged at least a few times, creating fresh outfits. Capsule wardrobes typically are under 30 items but we are challenging ourselves to make it 25, featuring all season, accessories and being business savvy as mentioned.

What are a few benefits you ask?

  1. You become creative by the way you style, instead of just ‘throwing on’ to make the outfit interesting.
  2. Money Saver!
  3. You properly re-use clothing as well make sure it’s being worn and not keeping the price tag hanging by its sleeve.
  4. You are now spending extra on quality opposed to quantity.
  5. When replacing you’re not overzealous, now knowing exactly what you need.
  6. Mindful of waste/fast fashion.

The items shown are purposely chosen for fillers and did not label the brands, this should be considered as a “stock capsule” Take it a step further and have an entire vegan/organic wardrobe. There are multiple carbon copies of items shown that can match your ethics!
