Taking a glimpse at our social media, you might have seen our footprints leading to what we called a ‘ photographers heaven’ with every bit of tasteful creative sugar ( and we are not just speaking on the blessed fika either)  following, we visited IDS Toronto, to see what our interior scouts had to buzz about.

With our high interest in the George Yabu  & Glenn Pushelberg Globe and Mail Saturday’s chat, we felt that would be a great start to whip up the best batch of design cream. Mr. Yabu and Pushelberg met at Ryerson University – the start of a lifetime design project. They spoke in regards to the importance of not just doing a lot of ‘stuff’ but doing the things that make you happy. Their humble beginnings living in Mr.Yabu’s mothers home, spending a summer eating Chinese buns for 49cents led to Mr. Pushelberg’s  comforting exact words “ but that’s okay” The sweet unpredictability of their perfect ‘nothing to something’.  “Toronto 30-40 years ago, was a city of business,” said Glenn Pushelberg. “ Doing business and doing well at business was important”  I think the best piece of advice one risk taker could take from that talk is stressing the importance of “ it wasn’t about making the money” which seemed no matter what direction the conversation led, they somehow grooved their way through, making that understood – looking back now as successful gentleman.

After taking inspirational deep breaths in from the chat and a few mantras pacing our mind anxiously looking forward to visiting each station.  The history of design filled the room, though it wasn’t dry, the passionate soda fizzled through each smile and each thrill was heavily shown as product and stories were told. No matter who you were or where you put your pointed dress shoes on, the aura was as if meeting an old friend or the excitement of starting a new relationship. Creating connections were heavy,  so for an individual that typically has shy nature, this would be the perfect day to slip out of your homebody chakra and emerge into a socialite. I even have to admit that I was unusually groovy, my inner Italian photographer showed, with my lens in just about every corner. You cant help yourself but feel right at…home, if that isn’t too much cheesy talk

Sunday – was lighter. Being the IDS ‘vet’ I felt more relaxed on what coverage I needed to complete and what House & Home colloquy I could get myself wrapped into. The gorgeous Lynda Reeves hosted a fun audience engaging talk with Brian Gluckstein. The topic was based on fads that they still love and ones that need to step outside and not just to the exterior either. I knew going into this I was dying to ask Mr. Gluckstein a question for our rad male readers, and sure enough, that was granted.

In regards to your male clients, men are obviously stepping up in the fashion/styling industry. Do you find men are paying more attention to interior design? “It’s so interesting you ask that,” says Gluckstein ( while I take a silent hair flip) “ It used to be where they wouldn’t show up to meetings unless we were talking about numbers. Now – not only is it every meeting that the male partner comes but we have had a few projects where the wives were busy and not interested. The husbands were directing the designs. There is a difference and the male partner wants a say in that, they are reading the magazines, going on Instagram.”  With the fabulous Lynda Reeves extending our question further.  Is there a difference in what men want, is it a gender thing? “ I think it used to be a gender thing, but not anymore,” says a firm Brian Gluckstein. I have a client of mine, who is an extremely famous CEO of many international companies and when we started the project for him, I told him that we are setting up a Pinterest board. Now he is this crazy Pinterest guy, he’s pinning so much I’m like how are you running any of these companies? * cue audience laughter, including my own* Now that it’s easy to be exposed to all of that, he’s really into it”

So gents, I think its fair to say a mood board is defiantly in the horizons. Below, we ‘pinned’ our favorites to this article for you to get inspired and become the kick-ass ‘BOSS’ you are. Make sure you pop over to our Instagram page (@radandrawmagazine) as once a week we are posting interior, exterior and food moodies that you defiantly will be ready to comment on!
